Dr. Chuck Baldwin Promoting Collectivism under the Guise of Liberty

Allison Bricker

Dr. Chuck BaldwinTHE REGION, INDIANA – As someone who came to the defense of Dr. Chuck Baldwin upon the release of the MIAC report last year, it is very disheartening to me upon reading his latest post to discover he is nothing more than a charlatan in the vein of Beck, promoting his brand of collectivism under the guise of Liberty. In his latest article, which from the title onward is filled with an over abundant use of logical fallacies and half-baked collectivist rhetoric, he attempts to correlate being queer, a government take-over of health care, and violating immigration law as one in the same, ergo “Guilt by Association”.

How he can resort to such nonsense after he was the victim of such flawed fallacy whereby the Department of Homeland Security via the MIAC sought to place him and his supporters on par with abortion clinic bombers is mind-numbingly depressing.

However, perhaps even more alarming is his dearth of knowledge on that of which he speaks, specifically stating in reference to homosexuality in the military he writes:

“…turning the modern American army…into a hodgepodge of foreigners, gang members, women, homosexuals, and mercenaries. (It worked out so well for Rome!)”

Well Chuck, first it was the Ancient Greeks who advocated open same-sex relationships in the military to boost morale1 prior to the assimilation in the Roman Republic proper. Perhaps Dr. Baldwin meant that the fall of Rome was due to homosexuals, in which case he would still be wrong as same-sex relations were well tolerated in Rome from prior to the reign of the notoriously flamboyant Caligula around 41 AD right up until the coronation of Theodosius in 380 AD.

Whereby, with Theodosius’ ascent to Emperor, he immediately outlawed the practice of all other religions, except for the Nicene orthodoxy of Christianity, forbid the Olympics, and closed down the Temple of Zeus. Further, he then ordered all Romans to pledge allegiance to the Bishop of Rome, and set about passing decrees restricting same-sex relationships punishable by death.2

Moreover, upon learning that the town of Thessaloniki revolted and assassinated his military governor for refusing to release a queer charioteer who made a pass at the governor, Theodosius ordered immediate retaliation upon the town resulting in the massacre of its 7,000 inhabitants including women and children. Consequently, after the death of Theodosius, Rome fractured never again to be united as one.

Thus, should my line of argument seek to pin the fall of Rome on one “Christian Soldier” type emperor who thought the appropriate retaliation was to murder and enforce religious doctrine by use of the state’s coercive power? Or should the example set by Theodosius taint my views towards all Christians as murderous thugs?

The simple fact of the matter is that Rome fell due to variety of circumstances ranging from perpetual Imperial Conquest, massive government subsidies, destruction of the currency, and the elevation of the “Executive Branch” i.e. the emperor over that of the Roman Senate, not due to the tolerance of one demographic or another.

Nevertheless, Dr. Baldwin then proceeds to attempt to buttress his skewed timeline of history with an appeal to the majority, i.e.:

“I have spoken with hundreds (literally) of active duty and retired frontline soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen, and I can unequivocally say that not one of them supported allowing sodomites to serve openly in the US military–especially in combat units. Not one! And the vast majority of them were also opposed to women serving in combat units.”

Well Chuck that is dandy, but just because a majority views something as proper and correct does not imbue said policy with morality. So using this logic, one could justify the invasion of Iraq, as a majority thought Saddam responsible for the attacks on 9/11. Alternatively, perhaps because the majority at one time thought women should also be prohibited from voting that should still be the case, or that a majority also once opposed integrating the armed services there should still be segregated barracks. Were any of these in hindsight valid reasons for the policy because the majority thought them to be the proper moral course?

Look Chuck its a statue of Deborah Samson, a woman who crossdressed and fought as a man in the American Revolutionary War - OMG - She was also the first woman to receive a pension for her service. And OMG Chuck, George Washington knew her true identity after she was injured in combat. Oh gosh a woman in a combat role, arrrgh this surely must spell the end for the Republic.Chuck, I am really sorry that possibly you and those who you have spoken with would perhaps prefer to see women barefoot, pregnant in the kitchen doing “women’s work” letting only the strong strapping heterosexual men be the ones killed in unnecessary war, but Chuck, have you ever considered examining another possible reason for lifting the Don’t ask Don’t Tell policy?

Has it ever occurred to the good doctor that perhaps the motivations behind lifting the Don’t Ask Don’t tell policy could be two-fold? While on the surface it appeals to the collectivist LGBT people group as fulfillment of campaign pandering, the actual motivation might just be based on cold calculated mathematical limitations.

That maybe with our military spread throughout the world in various never-ending conflicts, with many now going on their third and fourth deployments that perhaps lifting the ban and letting all who would like to serve helps stave off a more severe method, such as a draft or even longer deployments.

Let us face candid facts Chuck, the military is tired, the men and to your interviewees dismay the women too, are tired, weary of war, weary of being away from their families, and that excluding anyone at this point makes the aforementioned all that much closer to reality.

However, it seems unlikely dear Chuck that you would allow yourself to entertain such a possibility, as it would be counter to your main motivation, ergo your own self-promotion by inflaming divisions via wedge-issue collectivist tactics. With you as the opportunist hoping to seize upon those disaffected in general with politics and small segments of the liberty movement thereby allowing you to form your own little people-group to support your next run for office.

Shame on you, and how dare you sully the Liberty Movement with your self-aggrandizing attempt to link a socialist take over of the health care industry, and breaking the law with being queer.

WTF Chuck. (NSFW)

Rep. Ron Paul – Health Care Vote Violates the Constitution and Economic Reality

Allison Bricker

Cannon House Office Building

In this week’s Texas Straight Talk, Dr. Paul discusses the historic House vote resulting in passage of the government run health care scheme. Further, he speaks to his dismay at the continued trampling of the Constitution whereby the Government seeks to impose a mandate upon Americans to purchase a service. He explains how this in turn will have the exact opposite effect of the stated goals of lowering costs. By securing a protected market, the passage of the health care bill ensures costs will continue to rise even more so due to the fact that no meaningful tort reform was included in the final bill.

Moreover, Dr. Paul speaks to the dangers of utilizing the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as an enforcement arm, whereby the government will now have expanded access to even more personal information, including insurance coverage, medical history, et cetera. He also opines upon the flawed logic offered by supporters such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Representative Slaughter (NY) of pointing to the “success” of Social Security and Medicare, when the fact of the matter is that both programs are operating in the red and ultimately headed towards total insolvency.

The notion that expanding the welfare roles while simultaneously cutting payments to doctors is an anathema to Representative Ron Paul and will only lead to fewer health care providers and increased debt. So has been the case as in every other country with a similar system, thus revealing the promised deficit reduction as just another fanciful pipe dream sold to the American people in order to secure populist sentiment.

House Minority Leader John Boehner: Republicans Cannot Stop Health Care Bill

The Smoking Argus

Floor of the United States House of RepresentativesOFFICIAL STATEMENT/WASHINGTON D.C. – Hello, I’m House Republican Leader John Boehner. I’m speaking to you from the Capitol, where in a matter of hours, the House of Representatives will vote on health care legislation sure to have a drastic effect on our economy and our lives.

It was here fourteen months ago that President Obama took the oath of office with a promise to govern from the center. Republicans stood ready to work with our new president and find common ground to address the issues Americans care about.

Unfortunately, President Obama and Democrats in Washington chose a partisan path and a costly, big-government agenda.

The trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ isn’t working as struggling families continue to ask: ‘where are the jobs?’ And taxpayers’ hard-earned money is being spent so fast that two trillion dollars has been added to the national debt on President Obama’s watch. [FULL TRANSCRIPT]

GOP Weekly Address by Sen. Scott Brown: President Obama’s Push for Government Healthcare

The Smoking Argus

Russel Senate Bldg. Rotunda - Behold the oldest Senate building where modern day Senators dine upon the backs of the American people while devouring the earnings of future generations via pet projects and unjust endless wars.Senator Scott Brown (MA) who was swept into office in large part thanks to “Tea-Party” / Independent voters in Massachusetts delivers this week’s GOP address. During the campaign, Senator Brown relied on the vague platform of “Change”, a tactic originally utilized by President Obama, as his pathway to victory. However, in his short time in the Senate, he has already proved to be disappointing to a large part of his “Tea-Party” base and merely par for the course in terms of Washington D.C.’s status quo. Many analysts inside of the Pro-Liberty and Tea-Party movements correctly forecast that his candidacy was merely a furthering of the false left/right paradigm whereby both parties routinely capitalize on voter discontent with the majority-of-the-moment offering up faux opposition, thereby retaining their stranglehold on power, albeit with different letters, i.e. ‘D’ or ‘R’ for the sake of appearances.

In addition to voting for the President’s “Give everyone a Teaspoon-to-dig-ditches” Jobs bill, Senator Brown has signed on as a Co-Sponsor to Senator McCain’s bill, S.3081 which seeks to grant government the authority to detain Americans indefinitely, with no charges, and solely under suspicion of an Ad hoc group.

Nevertheless, Senator Brown uses his weekly address to urge President Obama to listen to the “will of the People” on health care reform, while simultaneously advocating for big government intrusion into the private-sector as a means “to fix the economy”.

G.O.P. Weekly Address, Senator Tom Coburn: Health Care Reform

The Smoking Argus

OFFICIAL STATEMENT – Hello, I’m Dr. Tom Coburn, a practicing physician from Oklahoma and a member of the United States Senate.

This week I had the opportunity to join President Obama and my Democrat and Republican colleagues for a summit on health care. We had a respectful and constructive discussion.

While we listened to one another, I’m concerned that the majority in Congress is still not listening to the American people on the subject of health care reform. By an overwhelming margin, the American people are telling us to scrap the current bills, which will lead to a government takeover of health care, and we should start over. FULL TRANSCRIPT

CATO- Thanks to the push for a more transparent Congress, we’re getting a better look at what new health care regulations might shape up to be. Alas, not a very good look: with weak justifications, the Senate Finance Committee is working on a strange “plain language” description of the bill, and apparently not planning to read or release the final language1.

I’ve found something worth noting, though, in each of the bill versions I’ve seen. The Senate Finance Committee’s Rube Goldberg plan for health care in America has a provision establishing paragraph talking about “Eligibility Verification.”

If you want to access the “state exchanges” or collect the federal tax credits created by the bill, your eligibility will have to be verified. Here’s what it says:

Eligibility Verification. In order to prevent illegal immigrants from accessing the state exchanges or obtaining federal health care tax credits, the Chairman‘s Mark requires verification of the following personal data. Name, social security number, and date of birth will be verified with Social Security Administration (SSA) data. For individuals claiming to be U.S. citizens, if the claim of citizenship is consistent with SSA data then the claim will be considered substantiated. For individuals who do not claim to be U.S. citizens but claim to be lawfully present in the United States, if the claim of lawful presence is consistent with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data then the claim will be considered substantiated. Individuals whose status is expected to expire in less than a year are not allowed to obtain the tax credit. Individuals whose claims of citizenship or lawful status cannot be verified with federal data must be allowed substantial opportunity to provide documentation or correct federal data related to their case that supports their contention.

CHAIRMAN’S MARK
AMERICA’S HEALTHY FUTURE ACT of 2009
Page 27

Translation: Every American who wants to access a “state exchange” or get the tax credits in the bill would have to submit data about themselves to the Social Security Administration or Department of Homeland Security for verification. If you don’t do it, no exchanges or tax credits. If your data doesn’t match, no exchanges or tax credits, unless you can convince SSA or DHS bureaucrats that you are who you say you are.

If you’re one of the millions of people about whom the Social Security Administration has bad data, plan to spend long hours waiting in line to plead with indifferent federal bureaucrats for health care access. When attacks and complications on the verification system break down, they’ll move to “strengthen” the system. Get ready to dig up your birth certificate—they’ll want to scan it into their computers—plan to be photographed and fingerprinted, and get ready to stand in line for your national ID card.

GOP Weekly Adress by Sen. LeMieux of Florida: Health Care reform Legislation

The Smoking Argus

OFFICIAL STATEMENT – Sen. George LeMieux (R-FL) discusses health care reform legislation in the Weekly Republican Address.

Sen. LeMieux notes, “Right now Senate Democrats and White House officials are behind closed doors crafting their final health care overhaul proposal. While the Democrats in Congress have no provided the actual language of their proposed law, we do know enough for Americans to be concerned.”

Sen. LeMieux points to some serious concerns with the bill: “We know it takes nearly $500 billion out of Medicare funding for seniors and requires our states to shoulder billions more in health care costs, which they can ill-afford to do.”

GOP Weekly Address: Senator Isakson of Georgia, Health Care Reform

The Smoking Argus

OFFICIAL STATEMENT – Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) delivers the weekly Republican address on the Health Care Reform bill that is currently being debated in the Senate Finance Committee. Senator Isakson also sends his condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives due to the recent flooding in Georgia.

Senator Isakson discusses how important this Health Care Reform bill is to the American people and how the Republicans have listened to what their constituents have demanded at local events and town hall forums.

Senator Isakson declares that “Americans are rightly concerned about the rush to pass a massive overhaul that will raise their taxes, lower their quality of care and put government between them and their doctor.” And that “Republicans believe the key to reforming health care is strengthening the doctor-patient relationship by using choice and competition rather than rationing and restrictions to contain costs and ensure access to affordable health care.”
