Thought I would share this since it's related to this series. It's a message I sent a fellow activist on what we need to do as individuals.

If this doesn't anger you then pump you up, I don't know what will:

A Long Train of Abuses
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaZrO0RM-HM" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaZrO0RM-HM</a>

Like everyone else, I'm fed up with this quasi-Communist state
we live in. I'm ready to get down to brass tacks and start making
some noise. I'm not speaking of violence. While what Ian did was
great, these single incidents will never amount to a full scale
awakening of our ignorant population. As long as the population
remains ignorant, nothing will change. Think Thomas Paine and "Common
Sense." A handful of patriots can't do it alone without the backing
of an educated citizenry.

Thomas Jefferson said it best:

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of
civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."
--Thomas Jefferson to Charles Yancey, 1816.

The first thing we need to do is organize some form of large and
constant show of unity towards oppression that everyone can
participate in without fear of the men in blue. The goal here is to
simply make the ignorant aware. I would suggest something as simple
as getting as many people as we can to drive with their hazzard lights
on 24x7. This in itself is benign, but the first step in regaining
freedoms from oppression must be to make the ignorant aware.

Awareness naturally leads to educating the ignorant, which is the 2nd
phase. As awareness increases, education will surely follow.

As people begin to wake up, they will start to feel empowered and
that's when change begins to take place. An educated population isn't
going to vote these same douchebags into office over and over again.
This is the only hope in taking our country back short of a full blown
civil war.

Of course, this is a very high level description and it's only the initial ides of the full plan, but hopefully you
get the idea.

I believe your proposal, while at best a long shot, is on point. The federalist papers claim that popular opinion, while important, was appropriate for the House. The Senate, as stated, was suppose to represent and protect the interests of the individual states.

Barring a repeal of the 17th ammendment, a step in the right direction would be an ammendment limiting any contribution to a candidate for political office to only those elgible to vote for that candidate. Ie., only residents of Colorado could donate to a candidate for Governor of Colorado. Same for Denver Mayor. I believe this process could be started state by state and eventually taken to the federal level. Although state restrictions would not apply to federal candidates immeiately, there would be some pressure in some areas to voluntarily comply.
