Self-Loathing and Governor Sarah Palin?

Women can be catty. Women can be jealous of each other. Women can feel uncomfortable or inferior in regards to another woman’s looks or confidence, and end up turning those feelings into an immense dislike. And, though I’ve never heard of men referred to as “catty”, I’m certain that both jealously and inferiority complexes are universal among both men and women. However, I haven’t come across an article yet that asserts that Barack Obama is hated by some men because of his good looks and self-assurance. Surely, there must be men out there somewhere that hate Barack Obama simply because he is more handsome and confident than they are? No?
Interestingly, according to a recent article by Belinda Luscombe, entitled Why Some Women Hate Sarah Palin, there are three main reasons as to why women are “getting their hate on” when it comes to Sarah Palin.
Number 1: She’s “too” pretty.
See, not just pretty. But, “too” pretty. Apparently, if she were just a little less pretty, these so-called “Palin Haters” would be more at ease? Somehow, I think that her stance on abortion rights and her former practice of charging rape victims for rape kits may have more to do with it. Just a guess.
Number 2: She’s “too” confident.
The problem is not that Governor Palin is too confident, but that she is too ignorant. Enough said.
Number 3: She could embarrass us.
Women – She could embarrass us. I am hardly embarrassed by Governor Sarah Palin. But, if this is true, if there are women out there that find themselves embarrassed by Governor Palin, and then translate that into her messing things up for us, setting us back further, then there is a real issue with this train of thought. Because the whole idea behind this assertion is that women are not equal to men and that women should only have less pretty, less confident, and less embarrassing women in the spot light in order to feel like they’re “getting somewhere”. And it is exactly this idea that I do believe “some” women have that keeps us down in the first place. It is not that men see us as less equal, though some do, but that women themselves play right into the notion of less equal. You do not see men boo-hooing that President George Bush is such an embarrassment to the male sex that now men will never move up the corporate latter, do you?

Unfortunatly, we compete against each other, instead of working together. Moms bash other Moms, Nurses “eat their young”, and then there’s the reality shows like, “America’s Next Top Model”, which doesn’t help.
But, I have been guilty of watching!
